The Twin Cities leave for the winter before anyone else. By late September, cars from Edina, Wayzata, Woodbury and the north suburbs are already on trucks bound for Naples, Fort Myers, Mesa and Scottsdale, and the season that peaks in November elsewhere is in full swing here by mid-October. They are also the longest common snowbird trips in the country, 1,600 to 1,750 miles to either Florida or Arizona, four to seven days on the truck, and priced accordingly. The yards in Eagan, Rogers and Brooklyn Park build loads before the trucks head for Chicago on I-94 or straight down I-35.
The rest of the year is relocations to and from the medical, retail and financial headquarters around the metro, students at the University of Minnesota and the private colleges every August and May, cars bought at the Twin Cities auctions for buyers elsewhere, and the summer traffic of lake-cabin owners. The suburbs are easy for a truck in every season the snow allows; the older grid neighborhoods are meeting points, and the cold is the winter fact. The quote form above is set to Minneapolis; add the other end of the trip and your vehicle for a range.

The suburbs are driveway pickups. Edina, Minnetonka, Wayzata, Plymouth, Maple Grove, Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Eagan, Woodbury, Stillwater, Roseville, Shoreview, Blaine and Anoka take a 75-foot truck wherever the street lets it turn without reversing and the snowbanks allow. Gated communities are few; where they exist, the driver meets you at the gate.
The older grid is a meeting point. Uptown, Linden Hills, Northeast, the Wedge, Longfellow, Mac-Groveland, Highland Park's narrower streets, Summit Hill and both downtowns have parked cars on both sides, boulevard trees and no room to turn, and the driver names a big-box lot off I-94, I-35W, 494 or on the Southdale and Rosedale sides. MSP's hotel lots along I-494 in Bloomington are the usual handover for anyone flying the same day.
The cold is the season's fact. From November through March, a blizzard or a cold snap that drops the metro below zero can hold a pickup a day or two, and carriers wait at no charge. Start the car that morning so it loads under its own power, keep the battery charged in the weeks before, clear the driveway, and if the street is not plowed, meet the driver on a main road. A car that will not start at 20 below becomes a winch job and a surcharge.
Outstate is collected on the way. Rochester on US-52 and St. Cloud on I-94 are served regularly; Duluth, Brainerd and the lakes take longer, and a meeting point in Forest Lake or Hinckley on I-35 saves days. Before the truck comes: keep anything in the car to a small bag in the trunk, and photograph every panel in daylight. The driver wants one key and a look at a photo ID. Your title stays home, and a lease or loan does not need anyone's sign-off to cross a state line.

Minneapolis books from late September. If your dates fall in October your specialist says so at the first call and asks for two to three weeks of lead time, which keeps the price in the lower half of the range on the longest lanes in the country.
Loads for both winters build in Eagan, Rogers and Brooklyn Park, so whether the car is going to Naples or Mesa we schedule the pickup as a stop on a departing load rather than a special trip.
From November to March your specialist reminds you to start the car, charge the battery and clear the drive, and checks the forecast so a blizzard does not catch the driver on 494.

Two to four days. The Twin Cities are the start of the longest snowbird runs in the country, and trucks build loads here before heading to Chicago or down I-35; the yards in Eagan, Rogers and Brooklyn Park turn them around. Book two to three weeks ahead in October.
To Florida, I-94 to Chicago and I-65 to Nashville, then I-24 and I-75. To Arizona, I-35 through Kansas City and Oklahoma City to I-40 and I-17. Both are four to seven days on the truck.

Deep cold and heavy snow can hold a pickup a day or two, and carriers wait at no charge. A car that will not start at 20 below is a winch job, so start it that morning, keep the battery charged and clear the driveway.
Outbound from late September through December, earlier than anywhere else, and inbound from late March through mid-May. February and March are cheapest southbound.
Yes. Rochester and St. Cloud are served regularly; Duluth and the north take longer and a meeting point in Forest Lake or Hinckley on I-35 shortens it.
