Metro Detroit is the start of the most direct snowbird lane in the country. I-75 begins its Florida run in the northern suburbs and a car hauler can stay on it through Toledo, Cincinnati, Knoxville and Atlanta all the way to Tampa, Fort Myers and Naples, which is why Michigan's winter residents are so concentrated on the Gulf Coast and why a Detroit-to-Tampa car is often delivered three days after pickup. I-94 links the metro to Chicago and the Arizona and western lanes, and the yards in Romulus near the airport and in Taylor along I-75 turn loads around daily.
The customers are Oakland and Macomb county snowbirds from early October, relocations to and from the auto industry's engineering and headquarters campuses in Auburn Hills, Dearborn and Warren, students at Michigan, Wayne State and Oakland every August and May, and the Detroit and Flint auction lanes, which ship to Florida and the South all week. The suburbs are easy for a truck; the city and a few inner-ring downtowns are meeting points. The quote form above is set to Detroit; add the other end of the trip and your vehicle for a range.

The suburbs are driveway pickups. Troy, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield, Birmingham's wider streets, Novi, Northville, Farmington Hills, Livonia, Canton, Plymouth, Sterling Heights, Shelby Township, Macomb, Clinton Township, Chesterfield, Ann Arbor's suburbs and the Downriver communities take a 75-foot truck wherever the street lets it turn without reversing and the snow allows. Gated communities are few; where they exist, the driver meets you at the gate.
The city and the inner ring are meeting points. Detroit proper, Midtown, Corktown and the neighborhoods use a lot on a main road, Woodward, Eight Mile, Telegraph or the big-box centers off I-96 and I-94. Royal Oak's and Ferndale's tighter downtown blocks, Dearborn's older streets and the Grosse Pointes' narrower lanes use the same. Detroit Metro's hotel lots along Merriman Road in Romulus are the usual handover for anyone flying the same day, minutes from the yards.
Winter is the season's fact. Snow and a hard freeze can hold a pickup a day or two from December through March, and carriers wait at no charge. Start the car that morning so it loads under its own power, clear the driveway, and if the street is not plowed, meet the driver on a main road. A car that will not start in the cold becomes a winch job and a surcharge.
Before the truck comes: keep anything in the car to a small bag in the trunk, and photograph every panel in daylight. The driver wants one key and a look at a photo ID. Your title stays home, and a lease or loan does not need anyone's sign-off to cross a state line. If the car is coming from an auction lot near Detroit or Flint, book the day the sale closes and give your specialist the lot's release process.

Detroit to Tampa, Fort Myers and Naples runs on I-75 without leaving it, and we quote the transit window that goes with a straight run: the bay area is often the third day.
Loads turn around beside the airport and along I-75 daily, so we schedule a metro Detroit pickup as a stop on a departing load and quote the window that goes with it, even in the October rush.
Give your specialist the buyer number and the release process at the Detroit or Flint lane is handled before the truck is assigned, so the car leaves before storage fees start.

Outbound to Florida and Arizona from early October through December, inbound from mid-March through May. Summer is relocations and the auto industry's transfers. Late February through April is cheapest southbound.
Yes; the Detroit and Flint auction lanes ship to Florida and the South all week. Book the day the sale closes and give your specialist the lot's release process, because storage fees start after a few days.
