Car shipping in Philadelphia: on the corridor, off the rowhouse grid

Philadelphia is one of the cheapest big-city pickups in the Northeast because it costs a car hauler nothing to get to. I-95 runs along the Delaware through the city, trucks loading in New Jersey add a Philadelphia stop on their way south, and the yards in South Philly near the Navy Yard and across the bridge in Bellmawr turn loads around daily. Fort Lauderdale, the Palm Beaches and Boca are the traditional destinations; Orlando, Naples and the Gulf Coast have caught up, and the coast-to-coast and Texas lanes run all year.

The catch is the rowhouse grid. Center City, South Philly, Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Manayunk and University City are built of narrow one-way streets with cars on both sides, and a 75-foot truck cannot stop on any of them. The handover is at a lot on Columbus Boulevard, Roosevelt Boulevard or Broad Street, and drivers who work the city have a regular one for each neighborhood. The Northeast, the Main Line and the suburbs are driveway pickups. The quote form above is set to Philadelphia; add the other end of the trip and your vehicle for a range.

Pickup and delivery around Philadelphia

The suburbs and the outer neighborhoods are driveway pickups. The Far Northeast's wider streets, Somerton and Bustleton; the Main Line from Bala Cynwyd to Paoli; Bucks County's Newtown, Yardley and Doylestown; Montgomery County's Blue Bell, Plymouth Meeting, Abington and Willow Grove; Delaware County's Media, Springfield and Havertown; and Cherry Hill, Marlton, Voorhees and Moorestown across the river all take a 75-foot truck wherever the street lets it turn without reversing. Chestnut Hill and Mount Airy's wider streets sometimes work; the driver decides the day before.

The grid is a meeting point. Center City uses a garage exit at a larger building or the Columbus Boulevard lots on the river; South Philly uses the Broad Street garages near the stadiums or the Navy Yard area; Fishtown, Kensington and Northern Liberties use Columbus Boulevard or the Aramingo Avenue shopping centers; University City uses the lots near the Schuylkill exits; Manayunk and Roxborough use the Ridge Avenue lots; the Northeast's rowhouse blocks use the Roosevelt Boulevard shopping centers. Philadelphia International's hotel lots on Island Avenue are the usual handover for anyone flying the same day.

Drivers pick hours to avoid the Schuylkill and I-95 at rush hour and the street-cleaning windows in Center City, and confirm both in the call the day before. A January ice storm can hold a pickup a day; carriers wait and nothing is charged.

Before the truck comes: pull the E-ZPass so the Turnpike and I-95 gantries do not bill it, keep anything in the car to a small bag in the trunk, and photograph every panel in daylight. The driver wants one key and a look at a photo ID. Your title stays home, and a lease or loan does not need anyone's sign-off to cross a state line. If the car is coming from a dealer on the Main Line or in Cherry Hill, give your specialist the sales desk's number.

Why AutoShippingUS

Why Philadelphia drivers choose AutoShippingUS

  • On the corridor, priced like it

Philadelphia costs the truck nothing to reach, and our Florida ranges from the city sit below New York's for that reason, shown before you enter a phone number.

  • A meeting point named for the neighborhood

Rowhouse streets do not suit a hauler. The driver names a lot on Columbus Boulevard, at the Roosevelt Boulevard centers or by the stadiums when the truck is assigned, and confirms the hour the day before.

  • The Fort Lauderdale lane, priced as a pair

Philadelphia to Broward and the Palm Beaches is a seasonal lane. Book the spring return with the fall trip and both legs are priced together and held on the schedule.
