Pittsburgh's snowbirds go to Florida by way of West Virginia. The city is closer to Charleston than to the Beltway, so the trucks that carry Upper St. Clair, Wexford and Monroeville cars to Fort Myers, Naples and Orlando each fall run I-79 south and I-77 through the Carolinas, or I-70 and I-75 through Ohio for the Gulf Coast, sharing loads with Cleveland, Columbus and Buffalo rather than with Philadelphia. It is about a day longer than an East Coast pickup and priced a step higher, and the yards in Cranberry and along Route 51 turn some loads around locally.
The city itself is one of the hardest in the country for a 75-foot truck: hills, narrow streets, one-lane bridges and stairs where streets should be. Most of Pittsburgh proper is a meeting point on a main road or at the bottom of the hill, and the flatter suburbs are driveway pickups. The customers are retirees to Florida and Arizona, relocations to the medical and university employers, Pitt and CMU students, and cars bought at the region's auctions for buyers elsewhere. The quote form above is set to Pittsburgh; add the other end of the trip and your vehicle for a range.

The flatter suburbs are driveway pickups. Cranberry, Wexford, Mars, Sewickley's flats, Robinson, Moon, Monroeville, Murrysville, Plum, Bethel Park, Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon's wider streets, Peters, McMurray and the newer developments in Washington County take a truck wherever the street lets it turn without reversing. Gated communities are few; where they exist, the driver meets you at the gate.
The city is a meeting point almost everywhere. Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, Point Breeze, Regent Square, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, the Strip, the North Side, Mount Washington, the South Side slopes, Greenfield and anything above the rivers have grades, narrow streets and parked cars that keep a loaded hauler from stopping safely. The driver names a lot on a main road: the Waterfront in Homestead, the Bakery Square area, the Route 51 and Banksville Road shopping centers, the McKnight Road strip on the North Hills side, or the lots near the Parkway exits. Pittsburgh International's hotel lots on University Boulevard in Moon are the usual handover for anyone flying the same day.
Winter is the season's fact. Snow and ice on the hills can hold a pickup a day or two from December through March, and the Turnpike over the Alleghenies and I-79 through West Virginia close in storms; carriers wait rather than drive into it and nothing is charged. Have the driveway cleared, start the car that morning so it loads under its own power, and if your street is not treated, meet the driver on a main road.
Before the truck comes: pull the E-ZPass so the Turnpike gantries do not bill it, keep anything in the car to a small bag in the trunk, and photograph every panel in daylight. The driver wants one key and a look at a photo ID. Your title stays home, and a lease or loan does not need anyone's sign-off to cross a state line.

Pittsburgh cars go south through West Virginia and Ohio, and we quote the transit window and price for that route rather than an East Coast number that does not apply.
Many Pittsburgh streets cannot take a loaded hauler. The driver names the Waterfront, McKnight Road or a Parkway lot when the truck is assigned, not on the morning.
Loads turn around in the North Hills and the South Hills, so we schedule a Pittsburgh pickup as a stop on a departing load and quote days rather than a week, even though the city is off the main corridor.

888-706-8784Roughly $850–$1,225 to Orlando, $900–$1,300 to Fort Myers, $875–$1,250 to Tampa, $925–$1,325 to Naples and $1,250–$1,700 to Phoenix for a running sedan on an open carrier. Enclosed adds 40–60%; SUVs and pickups 12–20%.
Two to four days. Pittsburgh is off the I-95 corridor, so carriers reach it on the Turnpike and I-79 and route south on I-79 and I-77 rather than through the East Coast. The yards in Cranberry and along Route 51 turn some loads around locally.
I-79 south through West Virginia to Charleston, I-77 through the Virginias and the Carolinas, and I-26 to I-95, or I-70 and I-75 through Ohio for the Gulf Coast. It avoids the Beltway entirely and runs about a day longer than a Philadelphia pickup.
Most of the city. Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, the North Side, Lawrenceville, Mount Washington, the South Side slopes and anything on a hill. Cranberry, Wexford, Monroeville, Robinson, Bethel Park, Upper St. Clair, Peters and the flatter suburbs are direct to the door.
A loaded hauler cannot stop safely on a steep street, so the handover is at the bottom or on a main road. Snow and ice can hold a pickup a day or two from December through March; carriers wait at no charge.
Outbound to Florida from October through December, inbound from late March through May. Summer is relocations and Pitt and CMU moves in August.
Yes; the auction lanes north and west of the city supply dealers across the region. Book the day the sale closes and give your specialist the lot's release process.
