Long Island is one of the largest snowbird origins in the country. Every fall, Nassau and Suffolk send cars to the Palm Beaches, Boca, Naples, Sarasota and the east coast of Florida by the thousand, and every spring they come back. Add the Hamptons and North Fork cars that move in and out each summer, the students, the relocations, and the cars bought from the dealer rows on Sunrise Highway and Jericho Turnpike for buyers in other states, and the island keeps carriers busy in every month.
Geography sets the timing. Nassau and western Suffolk are collected on a truck's way to the Long Island Expressway and get pickups within a few days; the further east you are, the fewer trucks pass and the longer the wait, with the East End adding a day or two and often a meeting point in Riverhead. Most of the island's suburban streets take a hauler; the older villages, the North Shore estates and the beach communities do not. The quote form above is set to Long Island; add the other end of the trip and your vehicle for a range.

The postwar suburbs are driveway pickups. Levittown, Hicksville, Plainview, Syosset, Massapequa, Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, East Meadow, Garden City's wider streets, and in Suffolk Huntington Station, Commack, Smithtown, Hauppauge, Bay Shore, Islip, Sayville, Patchogue and the Ronkonkoma area take a 75-foot truck wherever the street lets it turn without reversing. Gated communities in Melville, Dix Hills and the newer developments admit a delivery truck with a call from the resident or meet at the gate.
The exceptions are meeting points. The old villages, Garden City's narrower blocks, Rockville Centre, Port Washington's hills, Manhasset, Great Neck and Huntington village, have parked cars, trees and no room to turn, and the driver names a lot at Roosevelt Field, Green Acres, the Broadway Mall or a big-box lot on Route 110. The North Shore's private roads in Old Westbury, Oyster Bay Cove, Lloyd Harbor and Cold Spring Harbor mean a handover at the bottom of the drive or a plaza on 25A. The beach communities, Long Beach, Point Lookout, Fire Island's ferry towns and the barrier beaches, meet the driver on the mainland side. Islip's MacArthur Airport lots and the JFK hotel lots on the Van Wyck are the airport handovers.
The East End is its own case. The Hamptons and the North Fork are served, but fewer trucks go out past Riverhead, and many drivers meet customers at a plaza in Riverhead or on Route 27 in Southampton rather than driving to Montauk. Book three weeks ahead in summer and for the fall southbound rush.
The E-ZPass comes off the windshield or the truck bills it at every gantry to Florida. Belongings stay under about 100 pounds, below the window line, uninsured. The driver takes a key and glances at a photo ID; the title stays with you and a financed or leased car crosses state lines without lender approval. A nor'easter from December through March can hold a pickup a day; carriers wait and nothing is charged.

Carriers work the island on the way to the LIE and the Linden yards, so we schedule a Nassau or western Suffolk pickup as a stop on a departing load rather than an out-and-back.
Long Island to the Palm Beaches, Boca and Naples in the fall and back in the spring is a seasonal lane. Book the return with the outbound and both legs are priced together and the April slot is held.
Riverhead, Southampton and the North Fork are workable handovers; Montauk is a longer day for the truck. Your specialist quotes the realistic window for the East End instead of the Nassau one.
